8 Important Habits to be successful in life

Published by Nitin Bhatt on

Habits are part of our personality and it determines our decision making, problem solving, persistence, goals, planning and daily life.

Below is the list of 8 habits which are very necessary to be successful ( 7 out of 8 habits are taken from the book of Mr. Stephen R. Covey; The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People)

1.Be Proactive – Plan and implement it before anything happens. Be proactive with every scenarios and have a plan for it. It will keep you prepared for all those scenarios. Example – Rainy season is coming soon and your house roof has a leak. Being proactive means you are ready with preparations for the upcoming rainy season and fix the roof.

2. Begin with the End in Mind – As saying goes “Wars are won in the mind before they can be won on the field“. Contemplate all the details and a perfect ending in your mind before you move on with your plan. A well imagines picture in the mind would help you to achieve it better and eliminate any potential hurdles. Example – You are going to start a business. Then, it is very clear to be in mind; how things would run in your business, what problems could you encounter, how would you mitigate those problems/challenges, how your business would prosper and what next…

3.Put First Things First – Prioritize things in your life. What is the most important shall be done first and then the second priority things shall be done next. Example – You are a stock trader then trading stocks in peak time must your top priority to earn money and then spend time with kids must be the second priority. Then only might come friends and outside life. PRIORITIZE THING SIN LIFE.

4.Think WIN-WIN – Always follow the rule of WIN-WIN. Let both parties won something and make them feel good about the deal. If, both parties win they would feel better about the deal and happy with the negotiation.

5.Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood – We shall be “ALL EARS”. Listen more and speak less before we want others to understand us. If, we listen more to others, we would understand the situation better and then can expect others to listen us and understand us.

6.Synergize – As the saying goes “Team work is better than working alone” or “two heads are better than one“. Synergize expects people to be cooperative and give inputs in teams so that we can achieve more than what we could do alone. It also means that value differences and work with common goal with different abilities.

7.Sharpen the Saw – Improve yourself and improve your physical, mental and emotional health as well as all the other skills until they become your first personality. In other words, It means make yourself better every time to reach the goal of perfection. Example – 1. Physical – exercise, nutrition, and stress management.  2. Spiritual – value clarification and commitment, study, and meditation. 3. Mental – reading, visualizing, planning, and writing. 4. Social/Emotional – service, empathy, synergy, and intrinsic security. (Source : https://www.franklincovey-benelux.com/en/resources/habit-7-sharpen-the-saw/ )

8.Help other people to be successful – After reaching perfection and making ourselves better, helping others to be successful shall be our final habit.
